Condensed milk
Vegetable condensed milk is currently not very easy to find in supermarkets, yet it is a very simple product to make and often used in pastry making. Let's see how we can make it at home in a few steps.

In a saucepan, weigh the milk, sugar and margarine.
Cut the vanilla pod lengthwise, open it and use the blade of a small knife to extract the seeds and add them to the mixture.
Mix the mixture with a whisk and bring to the boil over a low heat.

Boil over low heat for 30 minutes to evaporate some of the water and thicken the cream.
Then transfer to a container or jar, and place in the refrigerator to cool. When it is completely cold it will have thickened and will be ready to be used.
